WHAT NOW! Even as you take the steps through the door of your new diagnosis, you must listen to God. You may not have the answers to the questions that torment you about your family, your suffering, and your fear of the temporary darkness ahead. But if you listen, He will speak--in some way, through someone, on some page or in some event. and if you listen for Him, you will know it is God, and you can go on. |
New Beginings Banquet
The Steel Magnolias 3rd Annual New Beginnings Banquet, held July 25, in the beautiful Monet Tea Room, was an evening of inspiration for everyone in attendance. The evening started with delicious food catered by David Ayers, owner of Tony's Barbecue, out of Gadsden. The dessert bar was prepared by Lenora Johnson. Following dinner, Cassie Harris, daughter of Margaret and Jimmy Taylor, started the program with the ever beautiful, "The Alabaster Box." Jo Ann Taylor wrote a poem that was the inspiration for remembering those we've lost to breast cancer and for honoring survivors. Jo Ann announced the title of her poem, "I Say Your Name," and as the names of those remembered were called by Jo Ann and President, Pam Bussey, Chaplain, Marti warren placed a white carnation in a crystal vase. Jo Ann then read her rousing poem, followed by Chaplain Wilson calling the names of survivors. Husbands, sons, and brothers gave pink carnations to survivors. Dr. James Daniel sang "Happy Birthday" to survivors and then Marti warren kicked the program in high gear by leading Steel Magnolias in the choral reading of "I'm a Steel Magnolia." Rascal Flats' new song, "Stand" was powerfully sung by Dr. Dave Roberts, after which Pat Jester introduced the key note speaker, Janet Bebee. Ms. Bebee, a 23 year survivor and co-founder of Georgia's Bosom Buddies, gave her testimony, gave current statistics, and talked about the work of Bosom Buddies. The raffle winner of Geri Smith's lovely crocheted comforter was announced, Gift certificates for Sunday Brunch for two at Classic on Noble were given to Chaplain Wilson, Dr. Dave Roberts and Pokey Warren for their faithful committment to the work of Steel Magnolias. Door prizes were given and the evening closed with Dr. Dave Roberts' performance of "I Hope You Dance" and encouragement to live every day to the fullest, praising God every day by using the gifts He has given each of us.
